How to find your Balance

This is a subject I’ve been really wanting to write about.  As I’m approaching my mid-twenties, with a steady full time career, and soon to be married, I’ve learned a lot about how to manage a balanced life. Obviously, this doesn’t include a life of marriage and babies, but I think this age is a pretty prominent time of where I have really learned about myself.  I’m seeing too many people struggling to maintain a healthy and balanced life, and I wanted to share my tips that I use in my personal life to stay as well rounded as possible.

This past year has been a year full of change and transition.  It was overwhelming at times, and I had quite a few mental breakdowns. It took a while to figure out my groove and what I needed to do in order to stay balanced, and not let my negative emotions rise above all. Whether it’s work, maintaining relationships, feeling over worked, etc., I’ve been through it and I’m sure you have too. There was a point where I felt like all my energy was going towards one thing, and not enough to another. I felt off, I was tired of playing catch up all the time, and at the end of the day all I wanted was sleep the minute I would get home. I knew I needed to figure something out before I was completely burnt out. So after a few deep talks with friends (always a good way to vent, everyone needs to vent!) The best piece of advice I was given: “You can’t do it all, let others help you.” I’m one of those people who definitely thinks I can handle it all, and over the past year it has been really nice allowing help from others! It’s also a bonding experience depending on what you’re working on.

I try to be as well balanced as possible. I do believe there’s not enough time in the day, and my to-do lists are always endless, but I couldn’t imagine having days go by constantly not doing anything or not having something to feel accomplished about. Don’t get me wrong, I would love three day weekends, and a vacation a month, but until then, here are some tips on what I think you should do to help stay balanced!

Self-Balance Tips

Treat yourself. splurge on something every once in a while.  You need to feel self rewarded. Yes, it’s nice getting gifts, but when you treat yourself it’s more of an accomplishing feeling.

Make time for yourself to do something you enjoy. Whether it’s cooking a meal,  catching up with a book, or doing your favorite hobby, MAKE TIME. I was reminded how much I love cooking, and I have designated at least 3 times a week where I get to cook some of my favorite meals while blasting music and just enjoying myself.

Pamper yourself. Seriously go get a massage and a facial, then top it off with your nails! If none of those are your thing, I recently discovered that I LOVE the Dry Bar! Get a fresh hair cleaning/head massage and blow dry! It’s so relaxing, and your hair stays clean for a good week, it’s a total win.

Relationship Balance Tips

• Trust. As cliche as that sounds, if you don’t establish a solid trust foundation in your relationship, it will only get harder. Don’t lie, it will bite you in the ass! No one wants this type of relationship – it’s so unhealthy and I see it too often it breaks my heart.

• Know each other’s friends. One thing I have learned through my relationship is how important it is to be involved with each other’s friend groups. You both should have mutual friends, and grow relationships with each others friends. It makes hanging out and doing things so much more fun and easier! If you have different friends and hangout with them by yourselves, you’re creating two different worlds for yourself.

• Date nights! You both need some alone time to reconnect. Life gets busy, and you start to lose track of time. Make sure you make time to enjoy each other’s company and just catch up. It’s nice to change it up too! Do something romantic, or a cozy night in watching movies and pop open a bottle of wine, go on a hike, try a new restaurant, etc. I love date nights, and we try to do two a month! He picks, and then I pick so it’s always something different!

Work Balance Tips

• Know your off switch. I think it’s important to have some type of boundary set to where you are off the clock. Even if you’re just checking emails on your phone, that counts! You need to be able to turn it off and be present with your life.

• Plan your week. I totally get random things pop up, and deadlines need to be met, but planning your schedule out at the beginning of the week helps you check everything off our list so much easier. My planner is my life.

• Don’t half ass a task. This is one of my pet peeves!!! Don’t say yes to a job or sign yourself up for something that you aren’t going to put your all into. If you’re like me, knowing and seeing something done not at its best, it will drive you crazy and you’re setting yourself up to do extra work. Why do that?

Over the past few months I’ve been the happiest I think I’ve ever been. Letting others in and helping out has allowed me to manage my time much better. With that, I’ve gotten to see my family more, started working out again, cook dinner at night, and start this blog! I just feel like I’m not stressed out all the time, and I’m happy! It has also helped my relationship as well! Matt and I are beginning to really think and plan about our future, and what we are prepared to handle, etc. I feel like I’m overall just able to organize my life, and plan ahead. I’ve always been a huge planner, so it makes me feel even better being more ahead of the game! It’s so important for everyone to find their groove, and figure out a way to make sure YOU DO YOU!

Feel free to leave all your tips on how to stay balanced and stress free! We can all help one another out, I’m sure we are all on the same page. Who else is with me and wants to live your best life?!

  1. Set personal/couple short and long term goals. Prioritize importance of goals and ask your partner to do the same. You’ll be surprised how many goals you’ll have in common. Your common ground will make it easier to focus and accomplish your goals.

Relationship: respect and be supportive of each other even if you don’t necessarily agree with your partner. Don’t lose your voice or yourself.

Balance: finding balance will forever be a challenge. Whether it be with work, family or friends. It’s important to take a moment to meditate and regroup and realize when one is feeling overwhelmed and make changes as needed.

You do you and live your best life!

Love passionately, laugh uncontrollably and live every day as if it were your last AND TRAVEL, TRAVEL, TRAVEL

So excited for the next chapter in your life. To find true love is a blessing. To find love at a young age and to get to grow old and experience and live life with your forever love is an even greater blessing. Cherish every minute!
